CNN —Liverpool’s chances of a historic quadruple in Jürgen Klopp’s final season at the club are over after falling to a 4-3 extra time defeat against bitter rival Manchester United in a frenetic FA Cup quarterfinal. Goals from Scott McTominay, Antony, Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo gave United the win in a topsy-turvy FA Cup classic at Old Trafford in Manchester. “The first 35 minutes I think was the best minutes from our season,” United manager Erik ten Hag told the ITV broadcast after the game. In a game as hectic as this though, no lead was ever truly safe, as United proved in the second half of extra time. United fans were treated to a win in a chaotic cup tie.

CNN —Manchester United is on the brink of an early Champions League exit after twice throwing away a two-goal lead in a chaotic 3-3 draw with Galatasaray. In the Champions League, you get punished for your mistakes, so we have to learn from that.” Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to TNT Sports after his team's 3-3 draw to Galatasaray on November 29. United has now conceded 14 goals in just five Champions League group matches, the most by an English club after five games in the competition’s history, according to Opta. Bayern had already qualified for the knockout stages ahead of the team’s 0-0 draw with Copenhagen on Tuesday. The team’s only chance of reaching the Champions League knockout stages is to beat Bayern Munich at Old Trafford in the final group game and hope that Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw.

CNN —The moment was over in a flash, but Alejandro Garnacho’s stunning bicycle kick goal against Everton on Sunday will be remembered for decades to come. The 19-year-old’s acrobatic effort set Manchester United on the path to a 3-0 victory, but all the talk after the full-time whistle was about that goal. The Manchester United youngster could barely believe what he had done as he, along with millions around the world, celebrated one of the best goals in the club’s history. After Sunday’s stunning effort, the Argentine international has also drawn comparisons with another Manchester United great, Wayne Rooney. That was the most beautiful overhead kick,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast.

Oct 27 (Reuters) - Manchester United's goalkeeper, Andre Onana, said teammate Alejandro Garnacho should not face any repercussions for his use of gorilla emojis in a recent social media post. Garnacho later deleted the post, but English media reported that the Football Association (FA) had been made aware of the post and contacted the Argentinian. This matter should go no further," Onana wrote on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. loadingGarnacho has made no comment about his deleted post or about being contacted by the FA. However, Man U could have dropped two points if Onana hadn't saved Jordan Larsson's penalty several minutes into stoppage time.

CNN —Manchester United relied on two unlikely heroes – goalkeeper André Onana and defender Harry Maguire – in a much-needed Champions League victory against FC Copenhagen. Onana's penalty save denied Copenhagen late in the game. The Cameroonian international has made several errors since joining United this season, including in a Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich last month. The penalty save went some way to atoning for those mishaps, and Onana was duly mobbed by his teammates immediately after his heroics. “I’m very pleased, it was a narrow escape as we needed to win,” ten Hag told reporters after the match.

"Especially in the dying second when you concede a penalty, but a brilliant save from Andre Onana." But Onana dived to his left to push the shot away before being mobbed by team mates at the final whistle. "I'm just doing my job, the most important thing is to win against a tough team," Onana told TNT Sports. "We are Manchester United. The victory was United's first in the Champions League since a 2-0 away win at Villarreal on Nov. 23, 2021.

While Erik Ten Hag's side set aside a difficult start to the season and cruised comfortably through at Old Trafford, Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers and Luton Town were knocked out by lower-division opponents. Wolves went 2-0 up and then lost 3-2 at Championship (second tier) high-flyers Ipswich Town while Premier League newcomers Luton were beaten 1-0 at League One (third tier) side Exeter City. Vincent Kompany's Burnley, without a win in the Premier League so far this season, overran League Two (fourth tier) opponents Salford City 4-0 with a second-string team. The match was the night's only fixture pitting two top flight clubs against each other and they will meet again in the league at Old Trafford on Saturday. The draw for the fourth round will be after Wednesday's matches, with 12 Premier League clubs in action and last year's losing finalists Newcastle United hosting Premier League champions Manchester City.

  + stars: | 2023-05-13 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +4 min
LEEDS, England, May 13 (Reuters) - Newcastle United suffered more jitters in their quest to finish in the Premier League's top four as they drew 2-2 at relegation-threatened Leeds United but Southampton's agony is over after being relegated on Saturday. Leeds defender Rasmus Kristensen's second-half equaliser denied Newcastle the victory that would have all but assured them a place in next season's Champions League. Southampton have 24 points from 36 games, 19th-placed Leicester City have 30 from 35 with Leeds on 31 points from 36 games and Everton on 32 from 35. Newcastle striker Alexander Isak was then hacked down by Maximillian Wober and Callum Wilson converted from the penalty spot. Newcastle were awarded a second penalty midway through the second half when Firpo handled and Wilson proved deadly once again.
May 5 (Reuters) - Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho could return from an ankle injury that has sidelined him for two months when they face West Ham United on Sunday, manager Erik ten Hag said as the Old Trafford outfit look to improve their away record. Garnacho has had an excellent debut season, scoring four times and providing five assists in all competitions. Maybe he can be involved, but we will have to see how the progress can go," Ten Hag told reporters. Ten Hag's team have five league games left, starting with the weekend's trip to West Ham, before they face derby rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final. So I count on my team, we have to do it again," Ten Hag said.
Ten Hag warns Man United against complacency

May 3 (Reuters) - Manchester United cannot afford to become complacent as they look to end their campaign by securing a spot in next season's Champions League, manager Erik ten Hag said on Wednesday. United are fourth in the Premier League, seven points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool who have played a game more. Ten Hag's team have six league games left, starting with Thursday's trip to Brighton & Hove Albion, before facing Manchester City in the FA Cup final. "Satisfaction can lead to laziness, we have six games to go and we want to win every game. United beat Brighton on penalties in the FA Cup semi-finals last month, and Ten Hag acknowledged that Roberto De Zerbi's men would be fired up by the thought of revenge.
